About MAG

  • An Accessible discipline

It is time to stop pre-established idea: Men’s Artistic Gymnastics is an accessible sport even if you do not start at five! It is never too late to learn how to control his body in space and acrobatic exercises.

There are different levels of practice in the French Federation:

– Evolugym learning Process
It is a complete, easy to learn and teach, program. Evolugym is a MAG playful approach adapted to many levels. This program delivers educational tools to organisers and coaches including an evaluation system.  It is an adapted learning process to novice gymnasts that want to learn the Gymnasticss’ founding principles. Evolugym is also a good program for experienced gymnasts that want to start high level. Indeed, there are 12 levels from Gymnastics for fun to Gymnastics for competition.

– Competition practice
Concerning competition, there are different categories adapted to level and age. These competitions are named “federal competition” and are dedicated to gymnasts who train between 5 and 12 hours per week. There are 3 qualification steps to go to the France Championship during the year. Each competition can be in team or individual.

Nowadays, the French Federation counts 23 248 members practicing MAG and this number is still increasing.

  • Historical Champions

Who are the historical huge Champions in Men’s Acrobatic Gymnastics?

Sawao Kato (JPN)
This gymnast won eight gold Olympic medals and was the best performer of the Japanese team which was the most powerful team from 1968 to 1976.

Mitsu Tsukahara (JPN)
During the 1972 Olympic Games he did a new vault and became Olympic Champion at horizontal bar.

Nikolai Andrianov (URSS)
Olympic Champion at floor in 1972, he is still the third best gymnast if we take into account the number of Olympic medals won (15).

Dmitri Bilozertchev (URSS)
All around World Championship in 1986 he was only 16. Then he had to overcome a huge injury to become once again World Championship in 1987 and he also won three gold medals during the 1988 Olympic Games.

Li Ning (CHN)
Nicknamed the “prince of the Gymnastics” after he had won 6/7 titles during the 1982 World cup he did also a hat-trick during the 1984 Olympic Games.

Vitaly Scherbo (BLR/URSS)
10 times winner of an Olympic medal and 21 times winner of a World Championship medal, this gymnast has an impressive list of hits.

Alexei Nemov (RUS)
During the 1996 Olympic Games, he has been the most decorated athlete by winning six medals. During the Sydney Olympic Games he also left his mark on the competition because he won the all-round and the horizontal bar titles.

Kohei Uchimura (JPN)
Even if he fell twice during the Beijing Olympic Games, Kohei won the all-around silver medal which is an impressive performance. This gymnast has been the first man to win four times in a row the World Championship title (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013). In 2012, he also won gold medal during the Olympic Games in the all-around category.
